Students Create Flyers for Real Clients

In Fall 2016, students enrolled in Dr. Amy O’Brien’s Desktop Publishing class (WRI 226) had the opportunity to create publicity materials for actual clients.

The students selected from three clients—the Public Relations Club, the Professional Writing program, or the Commission on the Status of Women—and designed flyers to publicize the clients’ events. The assignment challenged students to craft compelling designs that adhered to four basic design principles—contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity—while also representing the personality of the organization.

The three designs below showcase excellent student samples:

Megan Luckenbaugh: Public Relations Club
Autumn Crouse: Professional Writing Program
Lauren Kaufman: Commission on the Status of Women
