Dr. John Ronan is interested in colonial American literature, antebellum American literature, and critical theory. His study of Hawthorne, Melville, and Emersonian character appeared in Leviathan: A Journal of Melville Studies in September 2014. His article “Young Goodman Brown and the Mathers” came out in New England Quarterly in 2012 and was reprinted in the Norton Critical Edition of The Scarlet Letter and Other Writings in 2017. His chapter on “Emerson’s Autobiographical Philosophy” is in the 2010 collection, Emerson for the Twenty-First Century: Global Perspectives on an American Icon, published by the University of Delaware Press.
He is currently Vice President of the Kutztown University Senate and Chair of the KU Committee on Committees. He has also served on the Executive Board of English Association of Pennsylvania State Universities and as Chair of the KU Honorary Degree Committee.
